Victor Heady

Victor's work, sometimes mistaken for fired ceramic tiles, are jewel-like oil paintings, done between multiple layers of varnish, that beg to be examined closely for their exacting attention to detail.

A retired art teacher from California, Victor was captivated by the comfortable ambiance of San Miguel de Allende. "I still find visceral excitement in the local surfaces, textures and colors. We are surrounded by 400 year old structures of quarried stone, plastered walls and adobe bricks, with several centuries of paint; deteriorating, crumbling, restored a hundred years ago by craftsmen with varying degrees of expertise -- an ongoing dynamic process. It's a dreamlike dance with the elements and processes of nature. I try to translate the visual elements of these processes into my painting while at the same time, appreciating the subtle tranparencies and surface qualities that I so much respect.
